Ventura, California was actually incorporated as San Buenaventura but is now more commonly referred to simply as Ventura. Situated between the Santa Clara and Ventura rivers, the soil in the Ventura area is exceptionally fertile and well-suited for citrus crops. In 1893 the local citrus growers, in then San Buenaventura, founded what would later become Sunkist Growers, Incorporated, which is now the largest organization of citrus growers worldwide.
